I met up with a good friend from High School this past Wednesday for dessert and to catch up. Diana was in town for a few days and I haven't seen her since the summer before last so I was really excited that even though we're on the other side of the world, we would get the opportunity to meet up. We met up at the Central Train station, and then walked to the Peak Tram to take it up to the top of Victoria Peak. It was a bit foggy, but the mist made the experience all that much more enchanting.

On the way to the tram we passed by this Bank of China Tower, it just looked so magnificent contrasted to the foggy backdrop. I felt like I was in Gotham City and looking at this picture I took that night, I keep expecting to see a shadow of a superhero to jump out from the top of this building.
We took the tram to the top of the Peak! The ride was less than 10 minutes and covered about 1.4 kilometers, it was all quite pleasant. The tram itself was so quaint, and the way it moved up the mountain reminded me of the SpaceShip Earth ride at Disneyworld Epcot in Orlando. SpaceShip Earth is a ride located inside the big Epcot ball that slowly took you to the top of the ball and detailed the human relationship technology and communication through the years. The Peak Tram probably reminded me of that because of the slow steady inclined path it took up the mountain and my elevated level of excitement towards such a tame ride haha.

When we got all the way up, the view was absolutely amazing- even with all the fog. It would've been nice if the view were clearer, but the fog made the city look that much more mystical. The fog was so dense up there that it sort of felt like I was walking through clouds. The winds were really strong as well and I thought we were going to get blown down every few minutes. DC and I had so much to catch up on that it was a bit hard to fully appreciate the scenery when all I wanted to do was hear about her time at Cornell these past two years, and the outreach projects she's been working on. Likewise, I had so much to tell her about my time at Rice and everything I have planned to do in Hong Kong.

What an incredible view!

Heart shaped goji berry jello! So kawaii!
After enjoying the view, we went inside to have a better chat and to enjoy some dessert at a Chinese restaurant called Tien Yi inside the Peak Tower. We shared some goji berry jello and had another dish of mango, sago, & pomelo in mango juice.

DC!
I nearly forgot how amazing DC is, she told me about all the research and humanitarian work she's been working on in the past few years for under served communities. It never ceases to amaze me how much she has been able to accomplish at such a young age, she's really one of those people who will change the world for the better. I'm only partially kidding when I say that I want to be just like DC when I grow up. (even though she's a year younger than me haha) She's in Hong Kong because she's still on winter break from Cornell and she has close family that live in Hong Kong (incidentally, on the Peak itself.) She was in Vietnam for the previous two or three weeks learning Vietnamese and taking classes in other things. It seemed like we talked about everything and it wasn't until the restaurant basically kicked us out because it was closing that we left. Even then, I felt like there was so much more I wanted to discuss with her. I have nothing but reverence for this girl and I feel like there's so much I can learn from her in terms of doing more to impact the community around us. She mentioned that she would probably come back to visit Hong Kong for Spring Break in April, so hopefully we can catch up again and we would both have accomplished some of the things we discussed by then.

The next day, I went out to dinner at a Thai restaurant with some friends to celebrate (a week late) my 21st birthday!!! We got dessert at Honeymoon desserts, then went to LKF afterwards to celebrate some more. All in all, a good week.

Better yet, here is a SUPER CLOSE UP ^_^
